Venezuela 4-7 United States

The United States defeated today Venezuela, 7-4, collected its fifth victory in the WBSC Men’s Softball World Championship and secured the third place in Group B. Venezuela ended fourth.

USA will play tomorrow at 13:30; while Venezuela finished in fourth place and tomorrow will face Japan for the quarter-finals of this World Championship, at 10:30.

Philippines 2-12 Mexico

Mexico and Philippines finished today the group’s stage of the World Championship. The team from Las Americas grabbed its third win of the event, 12-2, but ended anyway outside of the quarter-finals. Philippines ended at eighth position, winless.

Japan 2-0 Botswana

Japan concluded the group’s stage with a perfect record after today’s win over Botswana, 3-0, and advanced to the Championship Round as the number one seeded in Group A.Tomorrow will play Venezuela, at 10:30, to open the quarter-finals of the event. Botswana will play the Placement Round.

Denmark 5-3 Singapore

Singapore belted today their first two homers of the tournament, but it wasn’t enough to defeat Denmark, who took the game by a score of 5-3.

Jens Terkelsen went the distance and claimed the win. He fanned 10 and allowed 5 hits and 3 runs.

Both teams will play tomorrow the Placement Round.

Argentina 6-4 New Zealand

Catcher Bruno Motroni hit a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh off Nick Hayes and lifted Argentina past New Zealand, 6-4, to clinch the second spot in Group A. Argentina , with a 6-1 record, and tomorrow will face United States at 13:30. New Zealand ended third and will play Australia at 16:30.

Canada 10-4 South Africa

Canada ended with perfect record the Opening Round, after a 10-4 win over South Africa. The North American team scored in five consecutive innings, from second to sixth to claim the win.

Cuba 4-5 Czech Republic

Down 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh, Marek Maly hit a 2-run walk off homer that sent Czech Republic to their third playoffs appearance in history. In an unforgettable night at Hippos Park in Havlickuv Brod, host Czech Republic beat Cuba, 5-4, and clinched the last spot in the quarter-finals of the Men’s Softball World Championship, starting tomorrow.
