Botswana beat Czech Republic, remains alive in the playoffs hunt. South Africa collects first win

Botswana scored three runs in the second, and Mogale pitched 4.1 hitless innings in relief to grab a key victory over Czech Republic, 4-2, and remain alive in the hunt for the playoffs.

In the bottom of the first Mikulas Klas found Vaclav Svoboda and Marek Maly on base, and the cleanup hitter plated them with an RBI single to center field.

Botswana answered in its next at-bat. With the bases loaded Kabo Matlho hit a solid line to right field and Maly missed the ball, allowing Thabo Dhlodhlo, Romeo Tshelametse and Brian Dekoker score.

With the lead, in the top of the third, Kagiso Mogale came in in relief for Karabo Motsholathebe, and the right-hander won the game in 4.1 innings, with 8 strikeouts, 1 walk, and no hits nor runs.

In the top of the fifth Radithobane his an RBI double to plate Jurry Manaka, adding a pivotal security run for his team.

In the bottom of the seventh Czech Republic put two runners on with no outs. Patrik Kolkus was hit by a pitch, and Tomas Petr reached on an error. However, Mogale escaped the jam striking out Jiri Korkac, retiring Vaclav Svoboda on a grounder and fanning David Mertl for out 21.

South Africa collects first win of the tournament

South Africa secured today its first win of the tournament, with a brilliant performance by TidimiaKekana from the circle.

South Africa scored three times in its first at-bat with a 2-RBI double by Mogau Thupudi, who later scored on a wild pitch. Then in the fourth inning, after two quick outs, South Africa scored four runs on three hits and a walk to make it 7-0.

Kekana fanned 10 rivals in 5 innings, giving up only 2 hits, to claim the shutout win. The loss was charged to Jeroen Mulder.
